...a little bit about The Pub...

The current building was built in the early 20th Centurty as an Inn to offer accommodation to travellers. The first floor was comprised of letting bedrooms, and an outhouse available for horses.

The landlord of the time had accommodation on the ground floor, with the living room where the pool table now stands.

Prior to the modern building, the Railway Inn looked like this.

The road on the right is Plant lane and the sign on the left clearly says Railway Inn on the original photograph. Parts of the wall were recycled and the coping is still visible today

The Railway Inn served Sawley Railway Station until it was demolished in the 1930's and a scrap yard now stands in its place on Old Sawley Road.

I hope you enjoyed this website and look forward to seeing you in The Railway Inn:-)))
